USTL provides full scholarships to outstanding students from Timor-Leste for two to four years of study at high-quality undergraduate degree institutions in the United States. Scholarship awards include full tuition toward either a bachelor’s degree or associate degree, travel, living stipends, medical insurance in the U.S., and visa costs. USTL is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), U.S. Department of State.

American Councils for International Education is delighted to announce the recipients of the 2015 U.S.-Timor-Leste Scholarship program (USTL). The fellowship provides full support for four years of undergraduate study in the United States.

The program is funded by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). It is administered by American Councils for International Education in Washington, DC, in collaboration with ECA and U.S. Embassy colleagues in Dili.

The 2015 USTL recipients are:
Leonardo Germano Tourinho De Sousa Rosa -Environmental Science
Abi Gerardo Mayella Da Cruz- Civil Engineering
Veronica Pereiri - Education
Maria Rania Liu Goncalves- International Relations

Selected scholars went through a rigorous application, testing and interview process. In making these awards, the USTL selection committee looked for academic excellence, a range of extracurricular and community activities, and a desire to give back to the Timor-Leste upon completion of the program.
