USTL provides full scholarships to outstanding students from Timor-Leste for two to four years of study at high-quality undergraduate degree institutions in the United States. Scholarship awards include full tuition toward either a bachelor’s degree or associate degree, travel, living stipends, medical insurance in the U.S., and visa costs. USTL is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), U.S. Department of State.

Please join us in congratulating the 2016 recipients of the United States-Timor- Leste (USTL) Fellowship:

These remarkable students were selected from almost 300 applicants for the fellowship this year. They will receive full funding to complete undergraduate degrees in the U.S. beginning August 2016.

The program is funded by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and administered by American Councils for International Education in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Dili.

USTL fellows are placed at U.S. universities and colleges that match their academic goals, provide outstanding support to international students, and meet the budgetary requirements of the USTL program. Students receive living stipends, insurance, and ongoing logistical support from American Councils staff throughout their four years of study in the U.S. The program begins with a pre-departure orientation at the U.S. Embassy and a two-day arrival orientation at the American Councils office in Washington, DC.

We had many outstanding applications for the 2016 fellowship awards! If you applied this year but did not receive funding, we hope you will consider applying next year.
