Taste The Nation

Located in northwest of Wyoming, Powell, the home of Northwest College and the home to 73 International students. Every year, to celebrate the diversity that the college has, the International Office organize an event called Taste the Nation.

Taste the Nation is an event where all the international students were given chance to present their nation. Presenting can be done by doing display board about the nation, have some home food displayed, showing music or dance, and many more!

In December 2022, I got the chance to be featured in the Taste the Nation event as one of the 73 international students at Northwest College representing my beloved country Timor-Leste! The audience were students, professors, staff of the campus and members of the community. It was fabulous experience. One of the most asked questions is ‘Where is Timor in the map?” I had a fun time explaining it to every single one of the people that came to the event. My board display includes the geographic location of the country, the people, the history, the culture, and the languages. One of the members of the community commented, she is glad that she could meet me, someone from half across the world with energy and enthusiasm to learn in NWC.

Towards this opportunity, I also got to know about my friends' culture and traditions from their home countries, like from Japan, Russia, Brazil, Portugal.

I am glad to be the ambassador of my country and I love seeing my friends and the community’s interest towards Timor and its history.
