At Northwest College, the spirit of cultural exchange thrives through the Friendship Family program. This unique initiative pairs international students with local families, providing them with an opportunity to immerse themselves in American culture and form lasting connections. Through this program, I had the pleasure of being paired with Christine Garceau, an adventurous and caring assistant photography professor at the college. Alongside her two adorable dogs, Luna and Annabelle, we embarked on numerous adventures, from exploring the breathtaking Yellowstone National Park to indulging in delicious dinners at Christine's home in Powell. Join me as I share the enriching experiences and deep connections formed through the Friendship Family program.

Christine: The Adventurous and Caring Mentor:

Christine Garceau, my devoted friendship family member, has been an integral part of the program since its inception. As an assistant photography professor in the Photography Department at Northwest College, Christine brings her passion for art and exploration to our friendship. Her adventurous spirit and caring nature make her the perfect mentor for international students seeking to discover American culture. Whether through engaging conversations about art, sharing personal stories, or embarking on exciting excursions, Christine fosters an environment of growth and friendship.

Exploring the Wonders of Nature:

One of the highlights of my friendship family experience with Christine has been our adventures in the great outdoors. With the stunning Yellowstone National Park and the captivating Big Horn Canyon Recreational Area within reach, we've had the opportunity to witness nature's beauty together. From the geysers and hot springs of Yellowstone to the towering cliffs and sparkling waters of Big Horn Canyon, these natural wonders have left an indelible mark on our shared memories. The breathtaking landscapes have not only deepened my appreciation for the natural world but also strengthened our bond as we marveled at the wonders surrounding us.

Sharing Home and Heartwarming Meals:

Beyond our outdoor activities , Christine has graciously opened her home to me, inviting me to experience the warmth of her family life. From cozy gatherings to delightful dinners, these moments have allowed me to truly understand American culture through the lens of a loving household. The aroma of home-cooked meals, the laughter shared around the table, and the genuine conversations have made me feel like a part of Christine's family. Through these shared experiences, I have not only embraced American traditions but also discovered the universal language of love and connection that transcends cultural boundaries.

Building Lifelong Connections:

The Friendship Family program at Northwest College has provided me with much more than just a glimpse into American culture—it has granted me the gift of lifelong connections. Through my bond with Christine, Luna, and Annabelle, I have experienced a sense of belonging and support far from home. From academic guidance and cultural insights to the simple joy of spending time together, the friendship forged within this program has become an invaluable part of my college experience. I am forever grateful for the bonds formed and the memories created, knowing that they will last well beyond my time at Northwest College.
