Time flies so quickly; I can hardly believe that I’m already in my second semester of studying in the United States. As I sit down to write about my experiences, I realize how much I’ve grown and adapted during this time.

During my second semester, I began adjusting to various aspects of life here- academic process, the environment, cultural, and lifestyle differences. Being part of the USTL scholarship program has been a blessing, allowing me to learn from the diverse people I’ve met and the place I’ve explored.
Despite a busy semester, I decided to join DECA Collegiate, formerly known as the Distributive Education Club of America.
DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management across high schools and colleges worldwide.

Last month, in March, our Fox Valley Technical College team represented DECA at the Wisconsin Delvan state competition. I partnered with two talented individuals from Indonesia- Anissa and Sharon. Together, we competed in the Entrepreneurship Startup Business category. It was exhilarating to see students from different schools participate, and I was thrilled when our team won the 4th place for our business plan presentation.

This month, in April 2024, we travelled to Texas, specifically Austin, for another DECA competition. Spending four days in Austin was eye-opening. Competing against students from different universities allowed me to witness their brilliance and creativity. Beyond the competition, we explored the vibrant city of Austin, appreciating its beauty and uniqueness.

Through DECA, I’ve learned valuable lessons about teamwork and responsibility. Collaborating with my partners taught me how to contribute effectively to a team. Our presentation received constructive feedback from the judges, which I appreciate. Their insights will help me improve in various areas for future presentations.

Joining DECA at Fox Valley Technical College has been an incredible opportunity for personal and professional growth. Experiencing the differences and learning from them has enriched my journey as an international student. As I continue my studies, I look forward to more adventures and discoveries.
